Munjina Gorge is between Newman and Port Headland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The highway between the two towns runs right through the gorge and can be seen in the painting. The rubble from the road construction competes with the scrub for space in the bottom of the gorge. Sunlight spills over the cliff face breakaway on the right of the paining onto the white trunks of the Snappy Gums, stunted by the harsh conditions and taking advantage of the shade provided by the cliff.
